Okay, let’s try this again.
After a few months of gaining back all the weight I lost, I’m committed to giving it another shot. This time, I’m making major changes.
The first major change is one that I had some minor success with in the past: giving up soda.
From October of 2014 to February of 2015 I didn’t drink any soda. Unfortunately, in the time since then, I’ve picked up the habit again. I’m going to give this another shot and end my association with the great physician, Dr. Pepper. We’ve had a good run, but I just can’t continue on. It’s just too destructive. I hope he understands.
The second major change is going to be significantly harder. I am cutting meat out of my diet, at least for the next month.
I really, really like meat. I like beef. I like chicken. I like pork. I like lamb. I like buffalo. This is going to be really hard, but something has to change, and I’ve felt like this was coming for a very long time. While I do think it’s going to be difficult, one thing will make it easier, and that’s change number three.
The third major change is that I am going to significantly cut back on my fast food intake.
I’m a fast food junkie, but this and the second change will create something of a symbiosis, since most of my meat comes from fast food: cheeseburgers, hot dogs, Chinese food (as much as I like burgers, I think this is what I’ll miss most).
My diet is going to basically consist of the following: eggs, protein shakes, vegetables, fruit, water, and whole wheat pasta.
Sundays are going to be tricky, because we typically go out for lunch with my in-laws and then go over to their house for dinner. Sunday may have to be “meat day”, but I’m going to try not to give in so soon. I do see a lot of Sunday salads in my near future.
Fourth major(?) change – I’m moving away from the Lose It app, which is what I’ve been using in my weight loss goals for the last few years, and moving to MyFitnessPal.
Because of better Facebook integration, I’m hoping that it will help me stay accountable. I’m also hoping to make better use of this blog. For a while in the last few months of 2014, I was doing pretty well, then I got bogged down with Les Miserables (which went really, really well), and this blog fell by the wayside.
Fifth major change is that I’m going to work out six days a week.
This will be a combination of DDP Yoga and dance. Primarily the dance will consist of my library of Xbox and Wii games…however, I’m also thinking about trying to learn to tap dance again. I’ve tried in the past to a modicum of success, but it’s been a little while, and I’m thinking that I might try out for a local production of Singin’ in the Rain in June. The month between now and auditions will give me a jump start on losing the weight and getting my tap muscles back in shape. If I can get in the show, that will give me a few days a week of tapping, which will help me on my weight loss path.
As of today, I weigh 225 pounds, my long term goal is to get back down to approximately 170 or lower. My short term goal is to lose two pounds a week. The Singin’ in the Rain audition is approximately six weeks away. That would put me at 213 pounds. The next “milestone” after that would be my trip to Pennsylvania for King of Trios, Labor Day weekend. If I stay on schedule, that would put me at approximately 195 pounds. Singin’ in the Rain opens three weeks later, and runs for three weeks. That would put me under 190 pounds for the first time in a very long time.
At that rate, I would be under my goal weight by the time my family and I leave for Walt Disney World.
I can, and will, do this.
